Hi all,
Thanks a lot for your supporting words. For those interested in the place,
I'm in Antwerp, Belgium, and the park we went to is located in Wilrijk.
Here in Belgium it's quite safe by anybody standards (if you exclude
Brussels, of course ;-) but stealing is a quite old 'profession' and it's
'practiced' all arround the world. It could have happened anywhere, I
suppose. Here I can walk in the center with my camera on my hand day and
night without much trouble... nothing I deared to do in NY ot Phily when I
went visiting :-) I even had a stalker once in Paris.
I come from a major city in a south american country and there I learnt what
*is* insecurity. (I had once a gun pointed on my head in exchange for my car
and girlfriend). Maybe that 'training' (paranoia ?) keeps me alert most of
the time and it's very likely it saved my gear yesterday.
Regarding to insurance, I'd like to hear from those here in Belgium. Once I
asked my insurance company and they offered me a ~22% rate on the insured
items... nothing I could pay on a yearly basis. Maybe I could get one in UK,
I've read that there they're much cheaper.
Thanks again for your support... shooting as usual ;-) ?
Greetings,
Gerard.
PS: Ken, you're quite right and I take your advice. Violence only generates
violence. Nevertheless I do know how to use one of those lead guns... ;-) I
actually own one, but it's a sport model of only one shot... and the odds
are that I'll miss ;-) ;-)
Being aware / running fast are probably the best helpers.
PS2: Susan, thanks a lot for the info. (she replied off-list with very
interesting points about peper spray)
