I agree on that. How about those small "assault alarms" I've seen being
recommended to (especially) women who live in rough areas? Small plastic
keyholder, makes more noise than the regular car alarm when you press the
button. Drawing the attention to you is often a good idea, since people
don't seem to like being seen while conducting criminal activity. But if you
are sure that no one will hear it I would suggest the already suggested
approach of handing over the gear an hoping that the insurance will cover
it. This is also the reason to why I always carry the already exposed rolls
in my pockets. Gear can be replaced, but images very seldom can, and life
never.
