version 1.6 and version 1.7 are identical, except that
version 1.7 adds Custom Function 19 to the list of original 18 CFs in the
Eos 3. Version 1.6 fixed some metering issues. Version 1.7 was released
late summer of 1999, and is still current.
CF-19 is of use if you have the IS versions of the super telephotos, such
as the 300-2.8, 400-2.8, 500-4, 600-4, all of these have 4 push buttons
located near the front of the lens. The CF-19 (which is present on the
1v), allows you to determine the action of these buttons, such as freezing
auto focus, or switching between single shot or servo focus mode while
button is pressed. etc.
