Well, most of the time I do not use AF so I have not
made any direct comparison between the 1n and 7 in
that field. Nevertheless, from the limited experience
with AF on the Elan 7 I got the impression that it is
actually faster then my 1n. At the same time the 7 had
more problems to find AF accuratly even in relative
bright light.
One thing that bothered me the most about the 7 is
that one has to chose the AF field with the 'cursors'.
Maybe I did spend enough time with the 7 to get used
to it but I much more prefer to use the QCD to change
the AF field. In my opinion this is much quicker and
more accurate.
All in all I like the interface of the 1n better then
that of the 7. Most functions that I need are fairly
easy to access. The layout is quite intuitive and the
body lays well in my hands. But maybe I only have that
impression because I am much more used to the 1n which
also has pretty much all features that I need. The
only exception that comes to my mind is the High Speed
Sync that for a few occasions would be handy. That's
not to say that the Elan 7 isn't good. In fact, for
many kind of photography it might be better then the
1n.
