Actually, the GREEN ring-thing would be even nicer.
Have there been any more sightings?

P.S. Before you give up on your 100-300 or any lens, try:
removing the UV filter and use lens hood, a steady tripod,
careful manual focus, mirror lock-up, and remote release
or self timer.
