Excuse my ignorance but why would somebody us a
6MPixel back on a MF camera? That seems to negate all
the advantages of a MF camera. The only application I
can think of is for studio 'snapshots'. In other words
for best quality you still have to stick with film.

BASically it provides investment protection and that is you can still use
your MF equipment.
You gain speed to market. The ability to show your catalog shots to your
clients immediately. Immediate feedback from client. Judge instantly if the
lighting is exactly what you wanted. Not worry about if the lab screwed up
your film.
Less chance to re-do the shoot because of possible errorsin lighting or lkab
problems. Yes a polaroid may work well but catalog and commerical
photography was the first area to embrace a MF digital back.
You can still swicth back to a film back if need be. I have seen results
from Foveon, MegaVision and other digital manufacturers and you would be
hard pressed to fine a sharper 30x30 image. On the downside you lose wide
angles as the factor is usually 1.5 (like the D30) to 2.2x. So your 80mm
lens would be a 120mm to a 180mm depending on what MF camera you employed.
In the case of Foveon they use Canon EF lenses. The true downside for these
cameras is that they need to be tethered to a PC to work.
