You have the silver Rebel G? (with the dateback?) Mine
are both black, black, BLACK. I took off the Canon
logo and Rebel G inscription with nail polish remover.
Black enamel or electrical tape does wonders for shiny
rings. ;-)

It's still pretty quiet, definitely a lot quieter than
my "zipping" 50mm 1.8 MkI. But the 50mm is sharp
enough to shave with (You can have it good, you can
have it fast, you can have it cheap, pick any two!)
The huge bummer is that the built in flash doesn't
cover the 22-55 at the very wide end, and indeed not
at 24mm.

It depends on what you are used to in a point&shoot.
If you have an Olympus Stylus Epic with the 35mm 2.8,
or a Yashica T4 with the CZ, you're going to be
disappointed. Any ZOOM P&S, though, and I think the
Rebel with the 22-55 is great by comparison.

There is an old Hawaiian saying that goes something
like, "If you wanna surf, you have to go to where the
waves are..."
I guess people like Diane Arbus, Lisette Model and
Arthur "Weegee" Fellig teach us that the photographic
waves are everwhere, if you're willing to look for
them!
