The BP-50 was not just for looks:  I needed AA battery power for
energy-hungry Image Stabilizer lenses.  And the Remote release
socket was made out of frustration: the 1000FN self-timer could
only work as a type of P mode, and flash was *ALWAYS* at 1/90s.
I remember once having to set ISO 6400 just to get a decent
aperture for full-power bounce flash in a group photo.
