Lars is perfectly correct. The effect of changing
the frame format (APS, 35mm, Digital) can be seen
by playing with my Javascript Lens calculator:
http://members.home.net/jul.loke/
The calculator will derive the angle of view,
AND it will give the equivalent lens in 35mm which
produces the same angle of view.
If you plug the EF 22-55 (which Photodo says is
really a 23mm at the wide end), you can see that
APS:H produces 68.574 deg x 42.245 deg x 76.170 deg
(horiz x vertical x diagonal) which is the same as
if you used the following lenses on 135 film:
26mm x 31mm x 28mm
The calculator has been programmed with the sensor
sizes for the Canon Digital EOS cameras too.
