No, my REBEL predates the "fake retro" look, revived by
the Elan IIe. It looks like this:

What kind of nail polish remover did you use? Was it
the stuff with acetone?

P.S. Have you tried using a cut-up transluent film canister
for a flash diffuser? It seems to provide coverage for at
least 23mm (which is what the "22-55" requires), and maybe
for fill-flash with 20mm (on the EF 20-35mm)
