How about older EOS bodies, like 630/RT? They have a simple pattern too, but 
I always got better results with those vs. ElanIIE -  that's why I sold 
ElanIIE a long time ago, but still have my RT and love using it. So, what 
makes RT expose so much better. And back when I had 630 (which I traded for 
1n later) it did better than ElanIIE as well.
