Maybe your theory is right but I don't think that it's so easy to develop
new lens. You're
right but it's almost the same lens and there are some more improvments than
only
combining existing optics with IS. Maybe Canon decided to launch new lens
earlier.
After last year experience Canon started to announce new products before
major
events (like PMA or Photokina). Coming back to DO technology it must be very
advanced and well protected (patents !) if Canon decided to announce it so
early.
In fact it was more presentation of the new technology than a finished
product.

Let's wait a bit more to see what happens !
