For stopping-action flash pics, you'd want to use x-sync and the widest
opening possible, since that will minimize the amount of power needed
from the flash and reduce the burst duration.
While shooting at x-sync, flash duration is (aprox) 1/10000 s (and
depends on needed power). When you cross the x-sync barrier going to FP
flash, you're actually forcing the unit to emit light for a much longer
period. Thus: FP flash at 1/500 will last aprox 20x longer than normal
flash at x-sync (1/90, 1/125 or 1/250 depending on your EOS model).
