Michael,
I assume you actually have a D30. I know you would not want to say "I
would not call "AF", what the D30 offers" unless you personally have one
and used it quite a bit. The D30 I have AF's great. Maybe not quite as
fast as my 1v or 3, but quite fast. I am a bird and wildlife
photographer and use the D30 quite a bit. I think maybe your D30 is
defective. Maybe you should return it for repair. I personally know
more than 10 others with the D30 and their AF works fine. If you need
the address to return "your" D30, let me know and I'll give it to you.
