The story that I have read in another forum which has supposedly been
confirmed by Canon USA is that because the D30 sensor area is similar in
size to the Advantix film format the choice was made to use the focusing
system from the Canon EOS IX. As I never bought one, I cannot confirm that
it has similar focusing characteristics.
