Hi Howard, I have found the 550 and (more recently) the 420 to be very
reliable for fill flash use on the 1v and 3. I have not had any real
problems at all with using them in any mode, although I tend to use A or S
most frequently. I nearly always have -.3 or -.6 dialled in to avoid
over-lighting subjects faces, particularly as you get closer. I also have a
Stofen Omni-Bounce fitted at all times.
