Hi Alex,
I have a simple way, if you are using the Elan 7.
When using flash, P mode suggests a shutter speed depending
on the ambient light level.
At EV 10 or below, auto shutter speed is 1/60s
At EV 13 or above, auto shutter speed is 1/125s (x-sync).
These correspond approximately to the beginning and end of
auto-flash exposure compensation. So I can guess when my
Elan 7E is applying FEC and how much :-)

P.S. This does not apply to my EOS 1000FN / REBEL SII, which
always uses 1/90 for flash :-(
