I disagree. You can find a cheap 380EX on ebay for about $US125-160.
New they run about $170.  Output is comparable to the Sunpak's and 
Vivitars. THe actual output may be 1/2 stop less, but you gain E-TTL, 
High Speed Sync and all the feature your camera support. Its a very
good flash unit for the price.
