I changed 500N to EOS3 (before 30/33 existed). The shutter noise is
considerable higher on 3 than on 500N; in fact, it surprised me.

>What drawbacks do you think the EOS 3 has?

I suggest to put on a list the plus and minuses of both bodies. From memory:

EOS3 Pluses / 30 minuses:

         - Spot mettering and multi-spot mettering
         - 45 focus points
         - 7 fps
         - Somewhat more rugged
         - can autofocus at f/8.0 (central autofocus point)
         - Interchangeable focusing screens

EOS3 Minuses / 30 pluses:

         - Price
         - Weight. That can be a plus if you use very big lenses (better
balance)
         - Lack of integrated flash
         - User interface. Even being easy to use, I prefer the wheals
based user interface than the buttons ones (matter of taste).
         - Shutter noise
         - Eye control focus reported to be not very reliable when used by
some people wearing glasses.

Probably now I'd buy 30 instead of 3 because of the reduced price and
weight, and because I'm not using many of the extra features on the 3, and
I could live without the ones I'm using. And I'd invest the remaining money
on lenses.
