Hi
I think you got Manual mode (which allows only your settings for shutter
speed and apperture, but not focus) and manual focus switch on the lens
confused. In AF one shot mode it will not fire unless it has focused on
something. So you can either focus manually - switch lens itself to MF, or
try swithing to Servo mode - that should get you better results.
