A couple of years ago when I moved from the A2e to an EOS 3 the decibel
level of the -3's shutter was one of the first things I noticed.  Someone
said it could make dogs bark and babies cry...they were right ;-)  The
shutter design however is clearly an advanced one and made for *many*
cycles.  Also I found by attaching the PB-E2 (or even the BP-E1 to a degree)
the shutter's noise level is dampened and it's pitch seems to change (for
the better I think).
