Hi Lawrence, If photography is not the primary purpose of your travel, then just getting a compact camera with a 28-90mm lens makes a lot of sense. If you must get a 28-200, the Tamron 28-200 XR (Model A03) looks most appealing out of all the 28-200 zooms. At a recent camera expo, I found that it is small enough not to cause significant flash shadowing as close as one meter at the 28mm setting.
