Did you remove 

My 28-135 IS USM does not vignette, even with 72mm filters, or Cokin P
filters. But then I am shooting negatives (and scanning them).

I do not have the 28-70 f/2.8L. The MTF charts indicate that it has
minor vignetting at 28mm, but only in the corners.

By this reasoning, even the EF 28mm f/2.8 vignettes, but not as badly
as the EF 28mm f/1.8
