Adding an additional ring pushes the filter holder forwards, possibly into the picture area. I have a 72mm diameter CPOL for the EF 28-135 IS USM (and the 100-400 IS USM). When I tried to attach it to an EF 22-55mm f/4-5.6 using two old HOYA step-up rings (58-to-68, 68 to 72), there was SIGNIFICANT vignetting. After I bought a HOYA 58-to-72 step-up ring, vignetting was cured, even at the wide end of the zoom. Note that my "Peachtree" CPOL (yes, the one with the slight green cast ... which incidentally neutralizes the Cokin Grad ND magenta cast very nicely :-) has front threads, but just enough to admit a half turn on a 72mm filter. I.e. not even deep enough to hold a standard Canon E-72U cap securely. [But good enough for the superb Tamron 72mm cap :-] Cheers Julian Loke P.S.
