Unfortunately, it is not the case for me.  I tried focusing on the shoulder
where it is the brightest (lighted from top), but most of the time the face
gets out of focus, or just too soft.  This is when I shoot at about 2.5m and
roughly 100mm, when the DOF is only about 20cm.  The handholding at 1/30 may
play a part in not getting sharp results at 100mm across the entire DOF
range, but at least my elbow was well-supported on the floor, much like a
monopod.  Oh yeah, shooting kids requires all kinds of challenging shooting
positions, not unlike wild life. :)
