As of yesterday, I'm the proud new owner of a Canon EOS Elan 7 and
100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens, my very first EOS gear. I have yet to
read but 3 pages of the instructions, but got a roll through it today
anyway. The camera is astoundingly quiet and fast focussing. IS worked
great. I'm a little confused with fill-in flash and auto-bracketing. The
auto-bracketing seems to have two abilities, single shot, where you have to
press the shutter release 3 separate times. This is nice if it's windy,
but a pain if you want only two exposures. Continueous drive
auto-bracketing appears to be a second option. It seems that if I only
want two exposures, this mode is better. I can hold the shutter release
for two exposures, let go, and it cancels the rest. Is that
correct? Second question is fill-in flash. Can I do flash
compensation? What's the best way to turn down the flash and overexpose
the overall image 1/2 stop? There doesn't seem to be separate exposure
compensation and flash compensation. Do I need an accessory flash or can I
use the built-in flash? If I can figure this out, the 135mm f/2 USM is
next on my shopping list. This Elan 7 seems like a good buy for the
price. Thanks all.
