I agree with you that we need at least 4 extra focusing points on the third
spots. Using the diagram in the EOS3 manual, it looks as if the four third
points are very close to the four missing 'corners' of the existing 45
focusing point rectangle. That means at least that the outside rows of
focusing points are close to the third lines of composition.
Digital cameras with their smaller film area will off course change this
again, since a bigger area will effectively be covered by focusing points.
