I know that the arc-form drive motors are supposed to be noisier than USM but I'm wondering if a lens I recently acquired is "defective".
When put in the Manual mode, the focus ring sounds and feels like something is rubbing against a fine pitch sawtooth. Is something out of alignment that would feel like two gears that are just making contact? Is this normal for this lens? It seems to work fine in the Autofocus mode but I don't know how much noise is normal.
