Hi Felix,

Hey, sorry about the length, I should have warned you, and how do you get
that accent mark?

Anyway, as I had previously mentioned, my comments were meant to be applied
within the context of the pro 35mm SLR. I certainly do recognize the fact
that many of the older and current for that matter, Zeiss rangefinder lens
designs are better optically than many of the current high-end AF SLR
lenses. But they are at a HUGE advantage, they can be much more pure,
simpler designs as they don't have all of the complicating factors involved
with modern AF SLR lens designs to consider.

The Leica SLR "R" bodies and their unique lenses are another thing all
together. Even the simple almost normal lenses are 4-XX times cost of
similar focal length Canon or Nikon 35mm AF SLR lens and the Leica R SLR
lenses are manual focus. At these rates they must offer something, somewhat
better optical performance and all of the name cache of Leica are all that I
can see.

Don't get me wrong, I used to own an M6 and before that a Leica chrome IIIC
and a several lenses, a collapsing 50mm f/2 Summicron<SP?>, 90mm f/4
Elmar<SP?> and a 35mm f/2.8 Summaron<SP?> (hey I can barely remember them
let alone spell the names!) that were my fathers, these of course got me
hooked and I wish I still had them. But the wisdom of youth of is, well
young and in hindsight, stupid. Leicas make for impressive camera and lens
systems to be sure but for me at least I found myself reaching for the SLR
more than the rangefinder because of what I shoot more than anything else.

Regards,

Chip Louie
