Petja, I have an 055C, no heavy lenses to test it with, but I agree that it should be fine. The head I use is the 168. The problems with this head are: 1.) It uses the large hexagonal plates. I always take these off if I am not using the tripod because they are so cumbersome, and consequently do not always use the tripod when I should. Also, as these have a flat mounting platform the camera can rotate if not sufficiently tightened. 2.) Because it is a lever lock, instead of a knob, it tends to move when clamping down. 3.) When I use the 100 USM Macro on its tripod mount, the housing for the mounting plate fouls the power booster or battery pack on the camera body. Another reason why I don't always use the tripod. Mind, it was cheap. When I eventually buy a new head, it will accept Arca -Swiss type plates. There are several manufacturers who make heads that will accept these besides Arca-Swiss (Kirk, Graf, Foba, etc.) and also some heads can have an Arca-Swiss style clamp (from RRS or Kirk) fitted as a replacement.
