Only some supertele L lenses are guaranteed waterproof. They are well sealed and have rubber gaskets at the right places. Still, I've used many consumer grade lenses outdoors when it was drizzling and there has been no problem (yet). The lenses I've (ab)used are the 100/2.8 macro USM, the 28-105/3.5-4.5 USM and the 24/2.8. If you're talking about the 50/1.8 mark-II then I'm very skeptical - build quality is real crappy, I doubt there's any weatherproofing whatsoever and a drizzle would probably mess up the insides/electronics. | What do other rainy day photographers do? I am reluctant to get into rain | hoods and the like. I am willing to forget about it when it is really | coming down, or aboard a really wet boat ride. But I do want to go out | into moderate rain as unencumbered as possible, and not damage the gear. I use an umbrella :) A filter on the lens and a cloth to wipe off water should be OK. Wipe off all the water and dump the lens in the dehumidifier when you get back home. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
