The Focal length thing does not bother me anymore. When I first got my D-30 it did, then after a few weeks I simply changed the way I "thought" when shooting digital. With the 16-35 the wide end is about 25mm...that is a decent wide end. Using the digital cameras one has to think in a different format from 35mm, just like when shooting a med format system.
