No, no harmful gasses. As long as it doesn't come in contact with anything
valuable, you should be fine. I use it to keep various things dry. The main
danger with it is that it is so highly hygroscopic that the liquid that
accumulates (which contains dissolved calcium chloride) can overflow, and
anything it flows onto is liable to be damaged/destroyed. You have to check it
reliably, and empty the collection vessel if appropriate.
