These dessicants are used regularly when shipping equipment that can be expopsed to 
high humidity during transit, our company have packed large training equipment in 
metalized plastic material that is heat sealed together, vaccuum out the air within 
this big "bag" with a vaccuum cleaner and toss in a couple of 10 lb bags of this stuff 
before sealing off the bag  We have never had any damages or adverse effect.

BTW, you can re-use the dessicant by baking them out in an oven to get rid of the 
moisture absorbed.
