Hi Rick, No, you don't lose them. Those little boxes are projected onto the screen with a laser of some sort. Don't worry about that, they are built into the rest of the camera, not the screen.
**However** the little red boxes may not line up with the grid screen...they don't in my camera, which bugs me a little, but makes no real difference.
