Hi All,

To answer a few questions,

Why are you looking at digital? I am not a wedding photographer myself, but
I am just curious, having recently spoken to a wedding photographer, who has
rejected digital and is firmly committed to analogue.

Ans: Every client I see asks me for digital shots these days. Believe it or
not, I have lost quite a substantial amount of business for not providing
digital services (about 25%). Digital is the way to go as it seems, its most
advantageous to the client. I can go through a picture viewer and delete or
remove dud photos straight away two mins before seeing the client. I too am
a traditionalist sticking firmly with film. I dont think digital can
recreate the characteristics of film, although it may come close.

Its not like im going to replace my medium format cameras with digital, I
will shoot with film whenever possible and shoot digital only when asked.

Hi Steven,

Can;t talk for Ethan, but I am converting to digital in weddings because
a) I can show my brides the pictures very quickly, and they can show the
family who lives far away quickly using the web
b) for PJ approach, it is important to capture the moment, but since they
are not posed, sometimes you need to take many more pics
c) 20 rolls of film with proofs at k&k including film : $600
d) ability to change ISO without switching camera's.

Ans: Shooting digital allows us to shoot again if we stuff up a photo. I've
been shooting weddings for the past three years and I must admit that I've
stuffed up a few photos that I would have loved to recreate.

Changing ISO on digital cameras is a bonus but the effects of doing so is
that it increases digital noise. The D30 at ISO 400 is just too noisy. I'm
hoping the D60 is less noisy. The 1D had banding effects. These negatives
has put me away from digital for the last 6 months.

Thanks for all you're comments on this subject, I'll be trialling a D60 as
soon as its available in OZ. Wish me luck!

Cheers,

Ethan
