I have already posted this before but it came through in an odd digest and given
there have been no responses I am wondering if it made it through to most of
you??
I have a few questions about the EOS 3 (which I recently purchased) and I am
guessing this is the best place to start.
Custom Functions
Someone posted a question not so long ago about the use of CF-4 and if I
remember correctly quite a few people replied that they found this very useful.
That is not something that I initially would have thought to use but now I am
wondering if there are any other CFs (or combination of CFs) that EOS 3 users
find really valuable and in what situations - particularly those that you
wouldn't automatically think of.
PB-E2
I have an EOS 5 with the VG-10 and really like the feel of it not only for
vertical shots but also for horizontal as well. It just seems to fit in your
hand better. I tried the PB-E2 for the EOS 3 expecting something similar and
couldn't believe how much weight those 8 extra AA batteries contribute. I know
a number of people have said that it gets balanced out with big heavy lenses
(70-200 f2.8 will be the standard lens when carrying this) and can be reduced
with the use of lithiums but do you really get used to it over time? I have had
the VG-10 on my EOS 5 since the day I bought it but I can imagine even if I had
the PB-E2 there would be many situations where I wouldn't really want to carry
the extra 1kg around with me.
The other thing that astounds me is that in the UK it is roughly 1/3 the value
of the EOS 3. I know it 'unlocks' features of the body but when you think of
what goes into the rest of the camera and what goes into the grip it is
surprising that the difference in price is so small. It is even worse in the US
(according to B&H) where the PB-E2 is close to half the value of the EOS 3 and
is the same price as the Elan 7!!
Battery indicator
The bc check button shows quite a few bars on the display when the battery is
full. Does this decline gradually (giving you warning before the battery dies)
or do they all vanish in rapid succession? I am particularly interested when
used with the PB-E2 because if I am going to carry that extra weight around I
certainly don't want to also carry 8 spare AA batteries around in case the
camera dies in a hurry. I know AA batteries are common and you can buy them in
a lot of places but I like to take photos where there aren't a lot of shops of
any description nearby.
Any ideas/thoughts greatly appreciated
Thanks
Nigel
