I've just received a test roll of film from my new Canon EF 22-55 f/4-5.6 USM lens. As you might know, it's a lens that was originally made for Canon's SLR APS camera (now discontinued, I believe). It's selling at B&H Photo for $99. To my pleasant surprise, it's a gem--one of the bargains of the camera world.
When I got the slides back, I put them on the light table and scrutinized them for edge softness and distortion. I couldn't find any, even at 22mm. That's assuming of course that you watch your lines. I took a couple of shots of an old church's huge entrance looking straight up to get the lines to converge. Beautiful. If you're looking for a cheap wide angle, actually, super wide angle, it's worth a look.
