I've just started using the NiMH batteries recently too (most are 1700mAH)
and with fully charged ones in both the CP-E2 and 550EX, the recyle time is
almost instantaneous.  I mean the flash is ready to go again by the time I
glance up at the green flash confirmation light on the back of the
550EX--the red go-for-it light is on too.  As I mentioned before, I got
through about four rolls before recycle time dropped to 3-4 seconds or so.

Oh, and Evrim the CP-E2 costs $119.95 at B&H, that's where I got mine.
