It converts the battery output to high voltage and connects to the high
voltage socket, like Quantum Turbos.
I use mine at weddings. I take typically 600 (not all flash) photos and
have never had to replace batteries (1700NiMH)
at a wedding. Recharge time is instantaneous for all (my) practical
purposes.
