Peter, and others, I very much appreciated the responses.

Peter, what is the new QR plate that you refer to below, that fits the 3229
QR Swivel Tilt Head? The 3229 (and the 3265 QR Grip Action Ball Head)
currently includes the 3157 plate. I'm curious what new QR plate you
purchased recently. Like others, I have to work pretty hard to lock down
tight the 3157 plate that comes with the 3229. I'd like to know what the
alternative is.

Most, but not all, that responded to my original post, on and off-line,
replied that indeed they do use the 3229 QR Tilt Head on the Monopods for
long lenses. Compared to some, who are using the 3229 Head on their
300/2.8s and the 600/4s, it looks like my 3229 Head is well suited for a
small-in-comparison 200/1.8. Thus, I plan to give a try this weekend, as is
(unless Peter responds quickly enough on what the alternative, new, plate
is).

I did have one suggestion to consider using the 3273 Quick Release Adapter
with Universal Sliding Plate, instead of the 3229 QR Swivel Tilt Head. I'm
going to look into this (B&H is currently out of stock).

I appreciate the contributions - they were very helpful.

Best regards,

Bill Neukranz

I can move the lens up and down easily. Yes, the QR can be a pain
but if you tighten it down hard it holds pretty well and does not
twist. There is also a new QR platform for the 3229/3265
that does not twist. Just picked one up.
