Hi Bill,

I have the 3273 (Manfrotto 357) and would not recommend it for use alone on
a monopod. For one thing, it only slides, but does not tilt. It is
compatible with the huge "long lens monopod bracket" 3421 (Manfrotto 393),
which I also have.

With all these choices available, I still prefer the 200 video head for
balancing a long lens on a monopod.

I also have the three styles of QR plates. The older style (247PL) fits a
222 grip action ballhead, as well as a 308RC Proball. It has a rectangular
cork plate on a square base which made it easy to rotate the camera or
plate. This is necessary if using a tripod mount ring A on an EF 200mm f/2.8
L in front of a BP-50 or BP-300.

The other style is a squarer plate with a cork anti-twist (200PL) that fits
the 200 video head. Unfortunately, this style does not fit where the 247PL
fits.

Over the last couple of years, the 200PL has been replaced by a newer
design. The improvements include a synthetic rubber anti-twist material (the
cork used to come unglued), a lower profile, and it now fits where the 247PL
and old 200PL used to fit.

There are several varieties: 1/4" thread, 3/8" thread, with or without an
"architectural" anti-twist shoulder. I was longing for the 200PL-ARCH plate,
but since the new 200PL does not have cork that slides around on the plate,
there is no tendency for my Elan 7E and BP-300 to twist.

Cheers
Julian Loke
