I like the sound of the new 24-70. A longer top end won't worry me once I get a 70-200, although some overlap of the ranges would have been nice.
The overlap at the short end seems excessive. I have the 20-35 USM, but it is the same for the 16-35 L. What it now needs is a wider zoom in the range of 14-28, with the quality of both build and optics of the 16-35 and at the same price. I bet Canon would sell a lot of those.
