I hear a lot of complaining about that the new 24-70 has been extended "in 
the wrong end". Don't forget that the 28-70 replaced the earlier 28-80... 
Also, few, if any, seems to consider that the auto-focus may be faster on 
the new 24-70 than it is on the 28-70. It could also be sharper. Just as 
the 16-35 looks like a significant improvement over the 17-35 in this 
regard. Also, what about less barrel/pincushion distortion, 
chromatic/spherical abberation, close focusing distance etc. I don't know. 
I don't have the 28-70, but the views expressed here seems a little 
single-minded.
