Alex,
I have this lens and purchased it after comparing the 70-200L with it a
couple of years ago. The sigma was slightly sharper at 200 and focuses
just slightly slower but still faster than anything in my bag.
Performance is very good with the matched 1.4x if you need 280mm the
cheap way. I have used mine with a variety of Canon bodies and the lens
has performed well with each one. I would highly recommend it as an
alternative to the 70-200L.
