Good idea, although I would still prefer the f/2.8 version despite of it's
weight and price tag.
I'll be using it as main portraiture lens (as I did with Minolta), so wide
aperture is mandatory. Besides of that, it would be pity not to allow the
EOS-3 to reveal all it is capable of once f/2.8 is attached...

alex, the 70~200 /f4 l lens is very very light, has excellent performance. u
can carry it all day and not feel the weight. from time to time b&h sells
this lens in the used dept as refurb for a very good price. once u shoot
with this lens, u will not go back to the sigma. best to go to a local store
and try it.
