The monolights trigger, but my assumption is that they don't trigger at the right time. I assume the EOS-3 exposure circuitry doesn't take them into consideraton or it takes into consideration incorrectly. Most of the time images are overexposed, but sometimes they are dramatially underexposed as if the strobes didn't fire at all. I have been using the P setting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- When you use P, the light output from a 550EX is squelched by the camera's circuitry. Since there is no connection aside a PC cord to the light (or radio) there is no means by which the large mono lights can be adjusted by the camera. If you set it to M, say 1/60 at F8, you can use your on camera flash as a fill, and use the remotely triggered mono light as a main. Would you need a flash meter? Yes/No. You can use the guide number (GN) for the mono light and do the calculations to determine the settings needed (or change in distance to subject for the light). Since we are all voting on meters, I favor the Sekonic L-508. You have cord/cordless triggering for lights, plus spot metering capability and can use all in ambient or with flash.
