I have to agree with Peter. I have both the 28-70 and 28-135IS lenses and
find it very hard to pick any difference in image quality. I use the 28-70
on jobs where I need the AF speed of the 2.8 or want a very shallow dof but
for most other stuff I just use the 28-135 - which has the more useful focal
length. I do find that the 28-135 is the only lens I have that vignettes
when shooting wide with a standard cp filter.

I am finding that this is becoming a less useful focal range lately anyway
and tend to shoot with the 16-35 on one body and 70-200 on the other. These
two lenses cover most shooting situations I encounter and it's only when I
travel really light that I grab just the 28-135 to chuck on my shoulder. I
am thinking of buying a cheap digital to have on me at all times and was
looking at either the G2/G3, S40, or Leica Reportage compact. I have clients
who use the G2's with great success and like the fact that it will take the
Speedlites for flash so am leaning this way. I'd be happy to hear any
comments regarding this comparison though from people who have used any of
them. I'll be getting the 1Ds for work when they're available so don't need
anything more substancial in the meantime.
