I'm not sure how long ago it was disscontinued, but since the new
model's so crappy, everyone wants the old model now. Must have been
more than 2 years ago I think.

The only differences with the newer model is the plastic housing and lack of
a distance scale. Oh yes, and the price of a new 50mm F1.8 Mk II is less
than the used price for the older "used" 50mm F1.8 Mk I.
Optically the MkII is an excellent performer but for those who want to look
the part the lens definitely looks like a cheap consumer grade type.
Also, manual focusing is a pain and there is no FTM like with the F1.4 (but
it's not $300 either), so for about $US80 its a bargain if you can live with
looking like an amateur. And at that price is it breaks, so what.
