Sadly, the ST-E2's small flash tube, masked by an infrared filter, has less range than the 550EX, which sends data signals using its main flash tube. On paper, "7-10 metres (20-30 feet) is the approximate official transmission range for the 550EX and 3-5 metres (10-15 feet) for the ST-E2."
